Montgomery County Public Schools: 2025-26 School Calendar

MCPS uses a color-code system for weather closures. Code Green is a normal school day, Code Yellow is a 2-hour delay, Code Blue is an early closing (2.5 hours early), Code Orange means schools are closed but offices are open, Code Red means all schools and offices are closed, and Code Purple means a virtual learning day. Our calendar alerts simplify this by telling you exactly what the status is without needing to decode the colors.

ParentVUE is MCPS's official parent portal (part of the Synergy Student Information System) where you can check your child's grades, attendance, and class schedules. Our calendar sync is a great companion to ParentVUE - while ParentVUE shows academic information, our calendar keeps your personal schedule organized with all district-wide dates, holidays, and breaks.

Once you subscribe, you'll receive an invitation to add the calendar to your Google Calendar. This works with any Gmail or Google Workspace account and will sync automatically to the Google Calendar app on your iPhone or Android phone.

The first day of school for all students is Tuesday, August 26, 2025. There is also a Student Transition Day on Monday, August 25, 2025, for students in Grades K, 6, and 9, Grade 3 students at Grades 3-5 elementary schools, and students new to a school or MCPS.

Winter Break runs from Monday, December 22, 2025 through Friday, January 2, 2026. Students return to school on Monday, January 5, 2026. This is an 8-day break (excluding weekends).

Spring Break is Monday, March 30, 2026 through Monday, April 6, 2026. Students return to school on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. This is an 8-day break (including the weekend).

Yes, schools are closed for students on several professional development and non-instructional days throughout the year, including September 23, October 2, October 17, October 20, November 3, January 26, March 20, April 15, and May 27. These days allow teachers to engage in professional learning, planning, and collaboration.

Early release days include September 17, 2025 (Elementary Early Release), September 26, 2025 (System-Wide Early Release), October 16, 2025 (System-Wide Early Release), November 24-25, 2025 (Early Release before Thanksgiving), and February 27, 2026 (Early Release). Specific dismissal times vary by school, so check with your individual school for exact times.

Quarter 1 ends October 31, 2025 (44 days), Quarter 2 ends January 23, 2026 (47 days), Quarter 3 ends April 14, 2026 (47 days), and Quarter 4 ends June 17, 2026 (43 days). The school year includes 181 instructional days with 6 contingency days built in for emergency makeup days (June 18-25, 2026).

Yes. This calendar applies to all MCPS schools including magnet programs, consortium schools (like Downcounty Consortium and Northeast Consortium), and special programs. All schools within Montgomery County Public Schools follow the same district-wide calendar.

No. This calendar is only for schools within the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system. Private schools, parochial schools, and charter schools in the area have their own separate calendars.
